Sheila McClelland appointed CORU’s CEO

CORU has appointed Sheila McClelland, current CEO of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland, the new CEO of the Health and Social Care Professional's Council.

Ms McClelland will start her new role on 8 April 2024.

David Hewlett, FODO Ireland Executive Director, said: "FODO Ireland is a strong supporter of CORU and looks forward to working closely with Ms McClelland, as we have done with her predecessors.

"Eye care workforce remains a key challenge, and we are doing all we can to increase the numbers of homegrown optometrists and dispensing opticians. However, as in nursing, we will likely be dependent on immigration to help maintain and increase the supply for some time. Ms McClelland's experience at the Nursing and Midwifery Board will undoubtedly assist with this."
