CORU statistics

Optometrists comprise 993 of the 26,774 professionals registered with CORU's Registration Boards as of December 2023, an increase of 25 (2.6%) since December 2022.

Dispensing opticians comprise 216 CORU registrants as of December 2023, an increase of 1 (0.5%) since December 2022.

Between December 2022 and December 2023, the number of CORU registrants increased by 1,799 (7.5%).

From January to November 2023, CORU processed 51 applications for recognition of international qualifications for optometrists and 6 for dispensing opticians.

While the total number of applications CORU has processed across all professions has increased significantly (665 in 2021, 958 in 2022, and 1062 to November 2023), the numbers for optometrists are substantially lower than the 83 processed in 2022.
